Service area
We build and renovate landscapes across Santa Clara County, from Mountain View and Sunnyvale to San Jose, Saratoga and Los Gatos.
Where we work
Arkland Landscape Construction works in eleven South Bay cities and communities in Santa Clara County: San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Cupertino, Campbell, Saratoga, Monte Sereno and Los Gatos. It's the same crews and the same process we use on the Peninsula next door, from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.
The South Bay is warmer and drier than the coast. Most of the valley floor gets hot summers with little fog, so shade, irrigation and plant choice matter more here, and many valley yards sit on heavy clay soil that drains slowly in winter.
Along the foothills, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Los Gatos and Los Altos Hills have sloped lots and long driveways, where retaining walls, steps and drainage come first. In the flatter neighborhoods of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View and San Jose, mid-century homes, Eichlers included, often suit clean-lined patios and low-water planting.

Local conditions
Hot, dry summers are hard on lawns and thirsty plants. Drip irrigation, smart controllers and drought-tolerant planting keep a yard looking good on less water.
Landscape EnhancementsClay holds water in winter and cracks in summer. We plan grading, drains and a solid base so patios, pavers and planting beds stay level and dry.
Landscape RenovationHillside lots in Saratoga, Los Gatos and Los Altos Hills often need retaining walls, steps and terraces to turn a slope into space you can use.
Landscape RenovationValley Water runs a Landscape Rebate Program in Santa Clara County, and some South Bay water agencies also take part in BAWSCA's Lawn Be Gone! rebate. Get approval before any grass comes out.

Yes. Valley Water's Landscape Rebate Program covers lawn conversions in Santa Clara County, including San Jose, and some cities' water agencies run their own programs too. You have to apply and get approval before removing any grass, and Valley Water won't pay for projects started early. Rules change, so check the current terms, and Arkland will schedule the work after your approval comes through.
Yes. Arkland has built an Eichler backyard with a concrete patio and a fire table, shown on our projects page. Eichler homes, common in Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View and San Jose, open onto the yard through walls of glass, so simple lines, flat patios and low-water planting tend to suit them. We design the yard to match the house, not fight it.
Yes. Foothill lots in Saratoga, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Los Altos Hills often need retaining walls, steps, terraces and drainage before anything else. Some walls need a permit or an engineer, and each town sets its own rules, so Arkland reviews what your site needs during the estimate, builds the structure first, and then adds the patios and planting.
