Privacy Policy

What we collect when you visit our website or request an estimate, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: October 19, 2026

Who we are

Arkland Landscape Construction ("Arkland", "we", "us") is a landscape construction company serving the San Francisco Bay Area.

This policy covers this website, our estimate request form, and the calls, texts and emails we send about your request. It explains what information we collect, how we use it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

When you request an estimate, we ask for:

  • Contact details: your name, phone number, email address and the city where the project is.
  • Project details: the type of project, your description, timeline, your role (for example homeowner or designer), estimated budget, the services you're interested in, where on the property the work is, the plans you already have, how you heard about us, and any other comments.

If you call, text or email us, we keep what you share with us, and our team may add notes about your project.

We don't ask for payment details, and we don't collect your precise location through this website.

Your form answers are saved as you go

Our estimate form saves each answer as you fill it in, before you press "Send my request". This means we receive your contact details and answers even if you don't finish the form. If you leave your contact details but don't finish, our team may get an alert and contact you about your request.

Your browser also keeps a copy of your answers on your device (in "local storage"), so you can pick up where you left off if you come back. It's removed once your request is sent or when you choose "Start over". You can also remove it by clearing your browser's data for this website.

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, we collect some information automatically:

  • Visit statistics: the pages you view and the estimate form steps you reach, the website that sent you here, any campaign tags in the link (UTM tags), your device type (phone, tablet or computer) and your country. We count these with our own simple tool, and each visit gets a random visit ID instead of your name.
  • Google Analytics: we also use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used. See "Advertising and analytics" below for what it collects and how to opt out.
  • Meta Pixel: we use the Meta Pixel to measure our Facebook and Instagram ads. See "Meta Pixel and Conversions API" below for what it collects and how to opt out.
  • With an estimate request: the page where you started, the website that sent you here, campaign tags and ad click IDs in the link (such as Google's gclid or Facebook's fbclid), your browser and device type (user agent), and your visit ID, so we can see how you found us.
  • Your IP address: we use it for a moment to block spam and limit repeated requests. We don't store it with visit statistics. With an estimate request we store only a scrambled, one-way version of it (a salted hash), never the real address. Our hosting provider also handles IP addresses to deliver the website and keep it secure.

Cookies, browser storage and outside content

Our own visit counter doesn't use cookies. Google Analytics does: it sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which hold a random ID so it can tell new visits from returning ones. It doesn't set them if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. The Meta Pixel sets first-party cookies too: _fbp, a random ID for your browser, and _fbc, the ad click ID when you arrive from a Facebook or Instagram ad. It doesn't set them if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal either. Our website also uses your browser's storage for two things:

  • Visit ID (session storage): a random code that lets us count your pages as one visit. It's deleted when you close the tab.
  • Saved estimate answers (local storage): your unfinished estimate answers, kept on your device so you can resume.

Apart from Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel, the only cookie we use is a login cookie for our own team when they sign in to our private dashboard. Website visitors never get it, and neither Google Analytics nor the Meta Pixel runs on the dashboard.

The map on our home page and Service Areas page loads map images from OpenFreeMap. When the map loads, your browser connects to OpenFreeMap's servers, which receive your IP address and basic browser information, as any website does. Our fonts are served from our own website, so they don't contact Google or anyone else. Apart from the map, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel, our pages don't load content from other companies.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your estimate request: call, text or email you, set up a site visit and prepare your estimate.
  • To send you one text confirming we received your request.
  • To alert our team by text and email about new and unfinished requests.
  • To sort requests automatically using your answers (such as budget, timeline and project type), so the right person follows up. Our team can review and change this at any time.
  • To understand how people find and use our website, and which listings and ads bring in requests, so we can improve them.
  • To measure our Facebook and Instagram ads, and to help Meta show them to people likely to be interested.
  • To keep the website and form secure and block spam and abuse.
  • To run our business, keep records and follow the law.

Texts and calls

When you continue past the contact step of our estimate form, you agree to receive calls and texts from Arkland Landscape Construction about your request.

  • We send one text confirming we received your request. After that, our team may call or text you about your project, for example to set up a site visit.
  • Message frequency varies.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • To stop texts, reply STOP to any text from us, or contact us using the details below. For help, call or email us.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We do not sell or share your mobile number or text messaging consent with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Mobile information will not be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes.

Our texting provider sends the texts for us and only uses your number to deliver them. If you'd rather not get texts, you can call or email us instead of using the form.

Who we share it with

We share your information only with companies that help us run this website and respond to you. They work as our service providers: they handle your information on our behalf and under our instructions, not for their own purposes.

  • Vercel: hosts this website and runs our servers.
  • Turso: stores our database, including estimate requests and visit statistics, on servers in the western United States.
  • Twilio: sends text messages: your confirmation text, and our team's alerts about new requests, which include your contact details and project answers.
  • Resend: sends email alerts to our team about new requests, which include your contact details and project answers.
  • OpenFreeMap: provides the map images on our home page and Service Areas page.
  • Google: provides Google Analytics, which measures how our website is used (see "Advertising and analytics"). It never receives your estimate answers or contact details.
  • Meta: receives information from the Meta Pixel and our server about your visit and your estimate request, for our Facebook and Instagram ads (see "Meta Pixel and Conversions API").

Meta is the exception to the first paragraph: it also uses the information under its own terms and privacy policy, for example to deliver and measure ads and to improve its systems.

Inside Arkland, only team members with a dashboard login can see estimate requests.

We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or as part of a sale or reorganization of our business.

We don't sell your personal information

We don't sell your personal information for money.

When you visit our website or send an estimate request, the Meta Pixel and our server send information to Meta for our Facebook and Instagram ads (see "Meta Pixel and Conversions API"). Under California law, this can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads based on your activity across other websites and apps). You can opt out: see "Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control" and "Your California privacy rights" below.

Advertising and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how people use our website. It collects:

  • the pages you view and how long you stay
  • your device, browser and screen size
  • your approximate location (such as city or region), worked out from your IP address
  • how you reached our website, such as the website, search or ad that sent you here
  • which steps of our estimate form you reach, and whether you send a request. It doesn't receive your answers: never your name, phone number, email, city, project description or budget.

We've turned off Google Signals and ad personalization, so this information isn't linked to Google accounts or used to show you ads. Google handles it for us as our service provider.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, Google Analytics doesn't load at all, and it never runs on our team's private dashboard.

To opt out of Google Analytics on every website, install Google's opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

We also use the Meta Pixel and the Meta Conversions API for our Facebook and Instagram ads. See "Meta Pixel and Conversions API" below.

Meta Pixel and Conversions API

We use two tools from Meta Platforms, Inc. (the company behind Facebook and Instagram) to measure our ads and to show them to people likely to be interested:

  • Meta Pixel: a small piece of code on our website. It tells Meta which pages you view, when you give your contact details in our estimate form and when you send your request, along with your IP address, browser information and the _fbp and _fbc cookies. It also receives the type of project you pick (such as New Construction), but never your other answers or your contact details. If you use Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link this to your account.
  • Conversions API: when you give your contact details and when you send your estimate request, our server also tells Meta directly. It sends your email address in a scrambled, one-way form (a SHA-256 hash), your IP address and browser information, the Meta cookies and ad click ID mentioned above, and the type of project. Meta uses the scrambled email address to match the request to a Facebook or Instagram account, if there is one. We never send your name, city, project description, budget or other answers.

We use this to see which of our ads bring in estimate requests. Meta handles the information under its own terms and its privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/

How to opt out:

  • Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser (some browsers and browser extensions offer it). Then our website doesn't load the Meta Pixel, and our server doesn't send your estimate request to Meta.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • If you use Facebook or Instagram, you can change how Meta uses this kind of information for the ads you see in your ad preferences (Meta Accounts Center → Ad preferences).

The Meta Pixel never runs on our team's private dashboard.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so our website doesn't change what it does when it receives one. Global Privacy Control, below, does switch off the Meta Pixel.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and we honor it automatically: our website doesn't load the Meta Pixel or Google Analytics, and our server doesn't send your estimate request to Meta. Those visits are only counted by our own cookie-free tool.

Your California privacy rights

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act) gives you these rights:

  • Right to know: ask what personal information we've collected about you, where it came from, why we use it and who we share it with, and get a copy.
  • Right to delete: ask us to delete your personal information, with some exceptions (for example, records the law requires us to keep).
  • Right to correct: ask us to fix personal information that's wrong.
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we don't sell personal information. To opt out of sharing with Meta for advertising, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (see "Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control"). We honor it automatically.
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information: we don't collect sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers or precise location) through this website.
  • Right to non-discrimination: we won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.

In the past 12 months we collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as your name, phone number, email address, visit ID, the random IDs in Google Analytics and Meta cookies and a scrambled IP address), customer records (your contact details), commercial information (such as your project details, budget and the services you're interested in), internet activity (such as pages viewed, the website that sent you here and your browser type) and general location (your project city, and your country or approximate area based on your IP address). We collected it from you, from your device and automatically, used it for the purposes above, and disclosed it to the service providers listed above. We share identifiers (the Meta cookie IDs, your IP address and your email address in scrambled form), internet activity and the type of project with Meta for advertising, unless you opt out.

To make a request, email us at contact@arklandca.com or call (650) 302-4483, and tell us which right you want to use. To protect your information, we'll verify your request by matching details you give us (such as your name, phone number and email) with what we have, and we may ask for more if needed. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time (up to 45 more days), we'll tell you why.

You can also have an authorized agent make a request for you. We'll ask for proof that you gave them permission, and we may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.

Wherever you live, you can ask us to see, correct or delete your information, and we'll do our best to help.

How long we keep information

We keep your estimate request and our notes about it as long as we need them to respond to your request, work on your project and run our business (for example, for records, warranty questions and taxes), or as long as the law requires. We keep visit statistics as long as they're useful for understanding how our website is used. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

The copy of your answers saved on your device stays there until your request is sent, you choose "Start over", or you clear your browser's data.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. Our website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, our dashboard requires a staff login, the form uses a secret code so only your browser can update your request, and we store a scrambled version of IP addresses instead of the real ones. No website or system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security.

Children's privacy

Our website is for adults planning landscape projects. It isn't directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 (including children under 13). If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Links to other websites

Our website links to other websites, such as our social media and review pages. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for how they handle your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new tools to our website. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll make that clear on this page.
