New Construction Landscaping

Complete landscapes for new homes, major remodels and commercial properties, built from bare ground.

New planting beds with drip irrigation lines at an apartment building

Overview

What is new construction landscaping?

New construction landscaping is a complete landscape built from bare ground for a new home, a major remodel, or a commercial or multi-family property. Arkland Landscape Construction installs the irrigation, drainage, walls, hardscape, planting and turf across the San Francisco Bay Area, building from your landscape architect's plans or designing the landscape with you.

A new building deserves a finished landscape, not an afterthought. We design and install complete landscapes from scratch: irrigation and drainage first, then walls, hardscape, planting and turf.

Already have plans? We build from landscape architect, designer and engineering drawings, and we keep a close eye on budget and schedule. Starting with nothing? We can plan it with you and give you budget advice from the start.

How it works

How does a new construction project work?

  1. Step 1: Consultation

We review your plans, or the bare site, and talk through goals, budget and schedule.

  2. Step 2: Plan & estimate

We work from your architect's or designer's drawings, or plan the landscape with you, then price it out.

  3. Step 3: Build

Irrigation and drainage go in first, then walls and hardscape, then planting and turf. You get updates along the way.

  4. Step 4: Final walkthrough

We walk the finished landscape with you before handoff.

FAQ

Questions about new construction landscaping

Can you build from my landscape architect's plans?

Yes, we build from landscape architect, designer and engineering drawings. Arkland has strong experience turning plans into finished landscapes, and we give feedback specific to the project as we go. We keep a close eye on budget and schedule, and we keep communication clear and open from the first plan review to the final walkthrough.

When should a landscape contractor get involved in a new build?

Earlier is better, ideally before the final surfaces go in. Irrigation lines, drainage and grade all affect what can be built later, so it helps to plan the landscape alongside the building. If you bring Arkland in early, we can review the plans, give budget advice and plan the landscape work so it fits the rest of the project.

Do new landscapes in California have to meet water-efficiency rules?

Often, yes: California's Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance covers new landscapes of 500 square feet or more that need a building or landscape permit, plan check or design review. Cities and counties apply it through their own ordinances, and some add stricter rules, so check with your city. Arkland builds the irrigation, planting and hardscape to your approved plans.

How do I budget for landscaping on a new build?

Plan the landscape budget alongside the building, not after it. Lot size, grading, irrigation and drainage, hardscape and plant sizes all shape the cost. Budget advice and planning are part of Arkland's New Construction work: we help you set a realistic budget, choose materials and plants that fit it, and phase the work if that makes sense for the project.

What gets installed first in a new landscape?

Irrigation and drainage go in first, then walls and hardscape, then planting and turf. Building in that order means finished surfaces don't get dug up later, and water is handled before anything is planted. Arkland builds new landscapes in that sequence, whether we designed them or are working from your plans, and we walk the finished landscape with you before handoff.
