Our services
Which landscape construction service do you need?

For existing yards
Landscape Enhancements
Your layout works. It just needs to look better, use less water, or be easier to live with. We upgrade planting, lighting, irrigation and turf without tearing out what's already good.
Best for: Homeowners and property managers who want a better yard without a full rebuild.
Includes
- Planting and plant selection
- Garden design for new beds
- Drought-tolerant and California-native plants
- Outdoor lighting
- Irrigation repairs, upgrades and new installs
- Natural and artificial turf
- Mulch and flower bed refresh
- Tree planting and replacement

For yards that need a reset
Landscape Renovation
When the yard doesn't work anymore, we rebuild it. We take out what's failing, fix drainage and grade problems at the source, and build new hardscape and planting that fit how you live outside.
Best for: Homeowners ready to change the whole yard, or a big part of it.
Includes
- Demolition and removal
- Drainage and retaining walls
- Patios in pavers, flagstone, stone, tile or concrete
- Walkways, driveways and steps
- Fire pits, outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands
- Decks, pergolas, pavilions and trellises
- Built-in benches and wood structures
- Wood and iron fences and gates

For new builds & bare lots
New Construction
A new building needs a landscape built to match. We install complete landscapes from bare ground: irrigation, drainage, hardscape, planting and turf, built to your plans or ours.
Best for: New homes, major remodels, and commercial or multi-family properties.
Includes
- Full landscape design and install from scratch
- Building from landscape architect, designer and engineering drawings
- New irrigation systems
- Drainage, walls and hardscape
- Planting, mulch and turf
- Commercial and multi-family landscapes
- Budget advice and planning

For trees that need care
Tree Services
Trees need care too. We remove trees, grind stumps, prune and thin to keep trees healthy, clear storm-damaged trees and branches, and plant new trees that suit the Bay Area.
Best for: Homes and commercial properties with trees that need pruning, removal or replacing.
Includes
- Tree removal
- Stump grinding
- Tree pruning and thinning
- Storm and emergency tree and branch removal
- Brush clearing and land clearing
- Wood chipping (keep the chips)
- Tree planting and replacement
- Tree inspection and care advice

For commercial & multi-family properties
Commercial Services
We bring our enhancement, renovation, new construction and tree work to commercial properties. We take care of what already exists, renew and upgrade it when needed, and adapt it to the site, including California native plants and water conservation.
Best for: Apartment complexes, HOAs and condo associations, offices, campuses, hotels, retail and parks.
Includes
- Upgrades to existing commercial landscapes
- Renovation of worn or outdated grounds
- New landscapes built from scratch or from plans

FAQ
Questions about choosing a landscaping service
What does a landscape contractor do?
A landscape contractor builds, installs, repairs and maintains landscapes, and prepares and grades the land for them. That's how California's Contractors State License Board describes the C-27 landscaping license. At Arkland, the landscape work falls into Landscape Enhancements to upgrade the yard you have, Landscape Renovation to rebuild it, and New Construction for new builds and bare lots.
What's the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect?
A landscape architect holds a California state license, and a landscape designer doesn't. Designers can draw concept and planting plans for a single-family home, but plans that need grading or drainage, or full construction documents, call for a licensed landscape architect. A licensed landscape contractor like Arkland can also design the work it builds and supervises itself.
Should I hire a landscape designer before a landscape contractor?
You don't have to: Arkland can design your project, build from a design you already have, or work from your landscape designer's or landscape architect's plans. A separate designer can make sense for a complex site or a very custom look. If you already have drawings, mention them in your estimate request so we can go over them with you at the consultation.
What is design-build landscaping?
Design-build means one company designs your landscape and builds it. At Arkland, we talk through what you want, meet you on site, design the project or work from your plans, and walk you through the options and your estimate before our crews build it. One team is responsible from the first plan to the final walkthrough, so nothing gets lost between designer and builder.
Should I upgrade my yard or fully renovate it?
Upgrade it if you like the layout, and renovate it if you want to change how the yard works. Landscape Enhancements keep the layout and improve it with planting, lighting, turf or irrigation. Landscape Renovation usually means demolition and new hardscape like patios, walls and steps, and New Construction starts from bare ground. Not sure? Arkland will tell you after we walk the yard with you.
Does Arkland do commercial landscaping?
Yes, Arkland builds and upgrades landscapes for commercial properties as well as homes. That includes apartment buildings, condo and homeowners associations, business campuses and offices across the San Francisco Bay Area. Our Commercial Services page covers upgrades, renovation, new landscapes and tree work for these properties. Tell us about your property and what it needs, and we'll point you to the right service.
