Service area · North Bay
We build and renovate landscapes in southern and central Marin, from Sausalito and Tiburon to Mill Valley, San Rafael and Fairfax.
Where we work
Arkland Landscape Construction works in 16 Marin County cities and communities in the North Bay: Tiburon, Mill Valley, Larkspur, San Rafael, Sausalito, Marin City, Strawberry, San Quentin, Tamalpais-Homestead Valley, Belvedere, Corte Madera, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Ross, San Anselmo and Fairfax.
Southern Marin wraps around Richardson Bay and the slopes of Mount Tamalpais, so many lots in Mill Valley, Sausalito, Tiburon and Belvedere are steep, wooded and shaded, with fog on summer mornings. Inland towns like San Anselmo, Ross, Kentfield and Fairfax are warmer and sunnier.
Deer are common across much of Marin, and many neighborhoods back onto open space, so plant choice, fencing and defensible space around the house get extra thought on every job here.

Local conditions
Hillside homes often need retaining walls, steps, terraces and drainage before there's room for a patio or a lawn.
Landscape RenovationUnder tall trees and in the fog, sun-loving plants struggle. We plant for shade and light paths and steps so the yard works after dark.
Landscape EnhancementsWe favor plants deer usually leave alone and protect the ones they like with fencing or enclosed beds, so new planting survives its first season.
Landscape EnhancementsLarge trees near the house can mean removals, pruning and defensible space. Our Tree Services crew handles that work alongside the landscape.

Yes. Marin Water's Cash for Grass program pays rebates for replacing lawn with water-wise landscaping for its customers in southern and central Marin. Amounts and rules change, so check the current terms with Marin Water first, including whether you need approval before removing any grass. Arkland can plan the new landscape and schedule the work around the program's steps.
Start with plants deer usually leave alone, protect the ones they like with fencing or enclosed beds, and keep the most tempting plants close to the house. No plant is fully deer-proof, so Arkland mixes tough, low-water plants with fencing where it matters, and plans for it during the design instead of after the first damage.
Yes. Steep, wooded lots are common in Mill Valley, Sausalito, Tiburon and Belvedere, and they often need retaining walls, steps, drainage and tree work before patios and planting. Taller walls can need a permit and an engineer, and each Marin town has its own rules. Arkland reviews what your site needs during the estimate, and our Tree Services crew handles removals and pruning.
